Solange Sior
A former winner of the Canadian Music Competition and winner of the National Bel Canto Competition, as well as finalist of The Metropolitan Opera National Council, this French Canadian artist has been making her home in Chicago for several years.
A graduate with Bachelor and Masters degrees in Vocal Performance from the University of Montreal and a former apprentice with Lyric Opera Center for American Artists (Chicago), Miss Sior has performed with many organizations in the Midwest and in Canada including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Florentine Opera Company, Light Opera Works, Lincoln Opera, Chamber Opera Chicago, Chicago Concertante, Opera Viva, Concert Artists AB, New Music Chicago, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Choral Union, Northwest Chicago Symphony, Youth and Music Canada, Lyri-Quebec, Lyri-Art, La Belle Epoque Theatre, and La Bergerie Theatre.
At the prestigious Shaker Mountain Music Festival she performed 3 years in a row and sang the lead roles of Marguerite (highly acclaimed!), Suor Angelica, and Manon. She sang Mimi in La Boheme at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy. She has also performed the roles of Violetta, Musetta, Pamina, Fiordiligi, Monica, and the lead roles in Rose-Marie and The Incomplete Education by Chabrier.
In 2007, Sior brought the house down in several performances of Madama Butterfly under the direction of Maestro Philip Morehead from the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Maestro Francesco Milioto, assistant director at Ravinia.
Equally at home in Oratorio work and art songs, Miss Sior’s beautiful voice has been heard in Mozart’s Requiem and Missa Brevis in B, the Faure Requiem, A Deutsch Requiem, Mahler # 4, Robert Hanson’s Hiawatha, the Messiah and several French melodie recitals and German lieder concerts, including recordings of Debussy and Richard Strauss for CBC Radio Canada.
As a pianist, Solange holds a D.E.C. and Laureate Degrees from Montreal’s Vincent-d’Indy Music School. She is the recipient of the 2014 Margaret Hillis Award for the Arts and received Elgin’s 2010 Image Award for her ten years of accomplishments as the Artistic Director of Elgin OPERA. Ms. Sior has been serving as music panelist on the Illinois Arts Council for several years and is the founder and Artistic Director of Fox Valley Lyrical Productions.
